Nicole Jones
Nicole Jones recently completed a documentary THE THIRD STRIKE which premiered
at CINEQUEST on March 7th 2020 and received a standing ovation. It centers on the work of Attorney MiAngel Cody. Ms. Cody’s client, Edward Douglas, was the FIRST prisoner released due to The First Step Act. Nicole tracked his journey from prison, to the return to his family, all the way to his invitation from Senator Cory Booker to the State of the Union Address in February 2019.
It is on target to be released in March 2021 through Gravitas Ventures.
As a writer, Nicole Jones mixes different genres along with her unique life experiences to create work that is truly one-of-a-kind. For her award-winning script SHRIMP, described by Austin Film Festival as reminiscent of something Guillermo del Toro would write, she used her ancestors polygamist roots, combined with the isolation of growing up a non-Mormon in Utah, and her love of Superhero fiction, to create a fable about an introverted woman who has supernatural powers she developed after being born to a young polygamist girl in The Great Salt Lake.
Nicole’s other award-winning script #KAREN, which was written and takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been positively compared to something Bong Joon-ho would write, specifically compared to PARASITE. For #KAREN, Nicole used satire and dark comedy to put a spotlight on the current social climate.
Nicole also seeks out other unique writers, like Danish writer Dorthe Nors. Nicole optioned Dorthe’s acclaimed Novella, MINNA NEEDS REHEARSAL SPACE, and is currently developing it into a series based on Dorthe's short story of a 40-year-old composer who's coming to terms with her life choices. (FLEABAG meets INSECURE.)
Nicole’s first short film she wrote, directed, and starred in with actor Ben Koldyke, (Masters of Sex, The Finest Hours,) entitled FOUR DAY WEEKEND, was in 50 film festivals worldwide
and won several awards.
As a producer, Nicole is currently in post production on a documentary called CINEMATOGRAPHER, directed by Dan Asma. The film is about the work of Owen Roizman, (The Exorcist, The French Connection, Tootsie, Network, and many others,) and Don Morgan, (Starman, Christine,) their friendship, and their bond as sober men who help other men achieve sobriety.
While working every department on a film set in order to learn all aspects of filmmaking, Nicole acquired over 25 years of unique film industry experience both in front of, and behind the camera. Having the good fortune to watch several directors up close, like James Cameron, Phillip Noyce, and Robert Zemeckis, made the process of filmmaking seem attainable
and inspired her to become one herself.
